I resumed my internship at The New Practice (TNP) on 20 July 2026. The programme was initially scheduled to last for six weeks, although I was only able to complete four weeks. From my very first day, I was welcomed into the firm and introduced to the council meeting, where I had to introduce myself by stating my name, school, and level. I was also introduced to the “Two Truths and a Lie” game, which was a fun way to get everyone involved and helped me settle into the work environment. I was assigned to a supervisor and also worked with another supervisor during my time at the firm. I was actively involved in various activities, including attending board meetings, working on confidential client matters, conducting legal research, and reading different laws and Acts. I was also introduced to trademarks, the process of registering a company with the CAC, the operation of companies under CAMA, and the role of the company secretariat. These experiences gave me a better understanding of how the things I learn in class are applied in actual legal practice.

Another memorable part of my internship was the opportunity to give a presentation on “Intellectual Property and Creativity in Nigeria: A Need to Protect the Music, Film and Fashion Industry.” It was a great experience because I was able to research a topic I found interesting, present my findings, receive corrections, and have meaningful conversations with my colleagues afterwards. The research tasks I was given also helped me develop my ability to find and understand legal information while improving my confidence in approaching different areas of law. I learnt a lot from my colleagues, not only about legal practice but also about professionalism, communication, and what it means to build a career in law. I was also privileged to attend a three-day training on English to Legal Writing from 12 to 14 August, facilitated by Mr. Chinua Azuzu. The training was insightful and covered different topics, including “Gender Equality in Modern Communication” and “Uncommon Law of Learned Writing 2.0,” among others. It was an engaging experience that gave me a different perspective on legal writing and effective communication.

Overall, my time at The New Practice was a wonderful, engaging, and eye-opening experience. Although I could not complete the full six weeks, the four weeks I spent at TNP gave me valuable exposure, practical knowledge, and experiences that I will carry with me throughout my legal education and career. I am especially grateful to the management of The New Practice, my supervisors, and my amazing colleagues, LA, FK, CF, DA, TJT, MAO, TI, CA, FE, and Shalom, who each contributed in their own way to making my experience memorable. They were not just part of my training; they made the work environment easier, more welcoming, and enjoyable. Above all, I am grateful to God for the opportunity and for everything I learnt during my time at TNP. It was truly a wonderful experience, and I sincerely hope to have another opportunity to return to The New Practice in the future.
