ONLINE TRADE MARKS JOURNAL [VOL 1 NO 3, 29TH MAY 2020]

  • The Nigerian Trademarks Registry has issued a new Online Trade Marks Journal. The new Journal is dated Volume 1. No 3 of 29th May 2020. Accordingly, the deadline for oppositions to published marks in this volume will be 2 months from the date of publication which is the 29th of July, 2020.

AMENDMENT TO THE 6TH EDITION OF THE NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMMISSION CODE

  • The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission at a press briefing held on 27th May 2020 at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja reported on reforms currently on going within the Commission. The Acting Director General Prof. Armstrong A. Idachaba reported that following the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari, the board and management of the Commission on the 26th of March 2020 held a public presentation with key industry stakeholders on the proposed Amendment to the 6th edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

The Amendment to the code which is yet to be published, reportedly seeks to introduce vital reforms such as increased advertising revenue for local broadcast stations and content producers, increased provision for Local contents and the restriction of monopolistic and anti-competitive behaviour in the Industry among others.

  • World Anti-Counterfeiting Day 2020 – 10th of June, 2020

This year’s World Anti-Counterfeiting day celebration as announced by the GACG Global Anti-counterfeiting Group (“GACG”) network is slated for Wednesday 10th June 2020.

Now in its twenty second year, the World Anti-counterfeiting Day pioneered by the GACG was set aside to enable the promotion of local, national and regional awareness initiatives under the umbrella of an international campaign with the primary aim of shedding light on topical issues of counterfeiting and piracy in the countries or regions involved. Various activities to mark this year’s event will be discussed in our next newsletter.
